Do I Have a Dental Emergency?
While some dental emergencies are obvious, other issues may be harder to determine. Dental emergencies can include:
- Severe tooth pain.
- A broken or chipped tooth.
- A tooth that has been knocked out.
- Gum or internal mouth injuries.
- A tooth with swelling or infection.
- An object stuck in between your teeth.
When in doubt, call a reliable member of our staff. However, if you have a broken jaw or severe bleeding, visit an emergency room right away!
What Should I Do in the Meantime?
If a piece of your tooth has broken off, bring it with you to your appointment. When an adult tooth has been knocked out, you can place the tooth back into the socket by handling the crown of the tooth (try not to touch the tooth root).
For any swelling or pain, you can often use over-the-counter pain relievers or a cold compress. However, you may want to check with one of our staff before taking a pain reliever, and avoid ibuprofen until we can examine your tooth.
